Anyone chasing ancestors in Williamson County prior to the turn of the century will notice that a number of the county townships were named differently than they are today. Blairsville Township used to be called Western Precinct, Herrin Township was called Herrin’s Prairie, Corinth Township was called Northern Precinct, Carterville Township was Eight Mile, West Marion Township was Bainbridge, East Marion was just Marion, and an extra precinct was shoved into the middle eastern side of the county called Rock Creek Precinct, Creal Springs Township was Union and Stonefort Township was called Saline.
