Sneed Highway History

Sneed Highway is the name for state bond issue route 148, coming into the county on the north line of Herrin Township and joining state route 13, or Logan highway, at a wye south of the city. The route was named in honor of Senator William J. Sneed, who fostered the paving of this route from Mount Vernon through the coalfields. Senator Sneed was a resident of Herrin.
