By 1876, thousands of miles of railroad track had been laid in the United States, so much so, that they were overbuilt and caused a nationwide depression felt by thousands of laid off rail workers. Much of the track laid in Williamson County was in the growing support of local coal mines and would continue to grow through at least the early 1900’s.
